- a liquid suspension of microscopic silver particles produced by electrolysis in a Silver Ionizer
Silver ionisation is similar to copper ionisation; but colloidal silver also attaches itself to the pool walls and floor, imparting a residual algaecidal action to these surfaces
Electrolytically-dissolved silver has been used very successfully as a water disinfecting agent: e.g., the drinking water supplies of the Russian Mir orbital station and the International Space Station are purified using Collodial Silver
Silver can also cause a black staining to occur on pool walls if not carefully administered, but is a very good bacteriostat that often reduces the need for chlorine
Some ionizers use copper and silver plates, or bi-metallic plates, to produce both silver and copper ions in the water
