This type of alarm uses invisible beams of infrared light to completely 'enclose' the pool area. When one of the IR beams is interrupted by somebody (or something) passing between the IR source and its respective sensor it will trigger an alarm
Infrared Alarm System
(the beams are actually invisible to human eyes)
Unfortunately, IR Alarms can be triggered by birds, dogs, footballs, falling leaves or even large insects and are therefore not as effective as other types of alarms because they go off so many times on a 'false alarm'. Having said that - any alarm system is better than none
The alarm that is triggered can be anything from a loud audio response to a simple flashing light
An IR pool alarm only monitors the perimeter of the pool and tells you when someone has 'crossed the line'. It does not tell you if that person is in the pool, just that they are close to the pool
