Cleaning the Filter

above ground pump and filter

- all pool filters need to be cleaned periodically. The frequency of cleaning depends on several factors: -

  • The size of the filter
  • Age of filter media or cartridge
  • Overall general clarity of the pool water
  • Amount of use the pool gets
  • How much rain enters the pool

As a general 'rule of thumb' a filter needs to be cleaned when the operating pressure has risen to 0.5 Kg per cm² or 8 psi above the operating pressure of a newly cleaned filter

Make a note of the operating pressure for your newly cleaned filter in your Logbook and also note when you clean the filter. That way you'll be able to see if the filters efficiency is dropping off over time - which may indicate that a more thorough clean, or a change of media, is in order

Follow the cleaning instructions in these links for your filter type
