Diving Boards and Slides

- diving injuries can result in quadriplegia (paralysis below the neck); therefore:-

  • NEVER dive into above-ground pools; they are too shallow
  • Don't dive into a pool that is less than 2.4m or 8 feet deep
  • Don't dive from the side of an in-ground pool - enter the water feet first
  • Don't dive if you’ve taken alcohol or drugs - your reactions will be slowed
  • Dive from the end of a diving board and not from the side of it
  • Dive with your hands in front of you and always steer up immediately to avoid hitting the bottom or sides
  • Pool slides present some of the same dangers as improper diving techniques: -
  • Never slide down headfirst; slide down feet first only
  • Never slide down standing or kneeling; eventually, you'll fall and hurt yourself
  • Remember also that we set the example for our children. If we follow the rules it will be easier for kids to follow them
