Pool Turtle wristband Alarm System

Wristband Alarms

- are pool alarms that are triggered by a device worn on the wrist

  • It gives immediate alerts if the wearer touches water, triggering a loud alarm from a base-unit which can be up 50m/150ft away
  • Produces an unmistakable, warbling alarm that quickly builds to an alarming 110 decibels
  • Parents can immediately react to save their child or family member from potential injury or death
  • The systems are completely portable and so can be taken with you to lakes, a neighbours pool or hot-tub, ponds, fishing trips, etc., powered by an adaptor that plugs directly into the car cigarette lighter socket
  • Rain does not trigger the alarm (but it's probably a good idea to get the kids in out of the rain, anyway!)
  • The wristbands are normally sealed-for-life but batteries can last up to 3 or 4 years. Some models have a test mode for checking battery life and a 'beeping' alert for low battery power

Wristband Alarm Pros

  • Relatively inexpensive when compared to other alarm system

  • Fully portable - some models even have battery-powered base units

  • Kids love the fun designs of most wristbands and will wear them willingly; even when they're just playing in the back yard or using the bathroom (many kids have drowned in bathtubs)
  • Can be used to protect kids, pets or vulnerable adults

  • Wristband Alarms can give parents a false sense of security - parental supervision is still the best form of safety around water

  • Most models come with just one wristband (additional bands cost about $55 each)

  • Not suitable for sea or saltwater pools use, but I understand that the manufacturers are working on this

Wireless Gate Alarm Sensor

This device, which works in conjunction with the Base Station, greatly improves the security of a Safety Fence

A gate alarm reinforces the weakest link of any pool fence; the gate latch. Nothing lasts for ever and gate latches are no exception; like all mechanical devices they are subject to deterioration over time and will eventually fail

The alarm will sound (VERY LOUDLY!) if a child succeeds in unlatching the gate, if the gate fails to re-latch after the gate has been opened by an adult, or if a child wearing a Turtle Wristband enters the water

Infrared Alarm

Infra Red alarms

This type of alarm uses invisible beams of infrared light to completely 'enclose' the pool area. When one of the IR beams is interrupted by somebody (or something) passing between the IR source and its respective sensor it will trigger an alarm

Infrared Alarm System

(the beams are actually invisible to human eyes)

Unfortunately, IR Alarms can be triggered by birds, dogs, footballs, falling leaves or even large insects and are therefore not as effective as other types of alarms because they go off so many times on a 'false alarm'. Having said that - any alarm system is better than none

The alarm that is triggered can be anything from a loud audio response to a simple flashing light

An IR pool alarm only monitors the perimeter of the pool and tells you when someone has 'crossed the line'. It does not tell you if that person is in the pool, just that they are close to the pool
